How Do You Become a CSIA-Certified Chimney Sweep® ?

There are two main paths to becoming a CSIA-Certified Chimney Sweep®:

#1 Hit the Books

The first path is to order your reference books, take the review, and pass the exam. Here’s what you need to know to go this route:

You’ll need to purchase and study the following three reference books: Chimney & Venting Essentials (2019), the NFPA 211 (2019), and the International Residential Code (2021). You can get all three right here, either a la carte or as a bundle.

Next, you’ll take the review, which you can either do In-Person or Online. If you have an eLearning subscription, you’ll already have free access to the Online Review. Otherwise, you can order your Online Review or check out our class schedule to find an In-Person Review in your area.
Finally, you’ll take and pass the exam. Once you’ve completed your review, you have up to one year to take the exam. You can either take your exam In-Person with an approved proctor or online with ProctorFree. Find out more about the options and how to order and prep for your test in Your Guide to Taking the CSIA Exam.

#2 Sign Up for the CSIA National Training Academy

The other option is to get up to speed and knock it all out in one go at our six-day hands-on National Training Academy. The cost of the training includes your manuals, your exam, and one-of-a-kind classroom instruction from industry titans. At the end of the training, you’ll take your exam. Which means in just six days, you could go from novice to pro and earn your credential. Learn more right here.
