Specialist Application Fee = $215

The CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist® designation is awarded to those CSIA Certified professionals who have committed to continuing education and practical knowledge in the chimney and venting industry.
Requirements for CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist®
List of Requirements
  • Be an active CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® credential holder
  • Have held that CCS credential for 3 continuous years or a minimum total of 10 years (non-continuous) with at least one CEU renewal.
  • Complete at least 4 of the following CSIA courses and/or requirements:
    • Active certification as a CSIA Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician®
    • CSIA National Training Academy
    • Chimney Science (additional options):
      • Chimney Physics 2-day in-person
      • Chimney Science Online
    • Chimney Documentation to Reduce Liability & Increase Profits
    • Active CPR Certification
    • CSIA Masonry Repair for Chimney Professionals 2,3, or 5 days (In-person)
    • CSIA Reline (In-person)
    • CSIA Rope / Roof Access (In-person)
    • CSIA MCS EPA BurnWise (Online)
    • 12 hours of CSIA online training (not to include reviews or Chimney Science online)
  • Have completed the NFI review in Gas, Wood, or Pellet. This can be completed through the CSIA/NFI Review and Training class held at CSIA Center for Education, Research, & Training or through NFI review and Training
  • A one-time application fee of $199 paid to the Chimney Safety Institute of America. $99 of this fee will be refunded if the application is rejected.

A one-time application fee of $215.00,  but if your application is rejected, $115.00 of that fee will be returned to you.
Application Process Steps
​Step 1:
Mail your application, along with a check (made out to Chimney Safety Institute of America) covering your application fee of $199 to the following address:

OR

Email your application and all supporting documents to [email protected]. If you email your application, you can pay your application fee by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.

Step 2:
The CSIA Director of Certification will vet all requirements before submitting qualified applicants to the Specialist Committee.

Step 3:
The Specialist Committee will render a decision regarding the CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist® designation within 30 days. In the event an impasse occurs, the CSIA Chairman of the Board will cast the deciding vote.

Step 4:
The CSIA Director of Certification will notify you by mail as to the final decision regarding the CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist® designation. You can expect to hear from CSIA within 60 days of receipt of application.
Other Questions
Can your credential be revoked?

Yes, your credential can be revoked at any time at the discretion of the Director of Education. Additionally, failure to retain any of the certifications required for the CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist® designation will result in disqualification.

Is there an annual fee?

CSIA Certified Chimney Specialists® pay an annual fee of $349. On renewal years, the annual fee is waived, and you only pay the renewal fee.

When do you need to renew your CSIA Certified Chimney Specialist® credential?
You’ll need to renew your credential every three years.
