DIRECTOR’S CODE OF ETHICS
 
A Director of the Chimney Safety Institute of America will uphold and advance the honor and dignity of their profession and the reputation of the organization.
 
Section 1 -  In keeping with high standards of ethical conduct a Director shall:
 
  1. Be honest and impartial, and will serve with devotion professionals in our industries and the general public.
  2. Strive to increase the competence and prestige of the profession and CSIA.
  3. Promote education and professionalism to those in our industries, thereby raising their level of competency.
  4. If you are engaged in the business of sweeping/inspecting chimneys, you must maintain certification as a “CERTIFIED   CHIMNEY   SWEEP®”   as appropriate under  the certification procedures of CSIA and comply with the CSIA Code of Ethics for Certified Chimney Sweeps and Certified Dryer Exhaust Technicians.
 
Section 2 -  A Director will be guided in all his/her professional relationships by the highest standards of integrity and will act in all matters brought before the Board in a professional manner.
 
a.A Director   will   advise the Board   when he/she   believes a  project  may  not  be  successful.
b.A Director will not accept outside directorships or offices to the detriment of his/her duties and responsibilities on the Board of Directors of CSIA. 
c.A Director will avoid  any act tending to promote his/her own interest at the expense of  either  the  Board of CSIA or the organization as a whole.
d.A Director will regard his/her duty to the Board as paramount.
 
Section 3-  A Director shall avoid all conduct or practice likely to discredit CSIA, the profession or deceive or mislead the public. 
a.A  Director shall not  utilize any  reference to  his/her  Board position for financial gain. 
b.A  Director  shall  not  make any statements or publish information that directly or indirectly implies  CSIA approval without prior Board  approval.   Any statements made or information published  without  Board  review  and approval  shall carry a disclaimer that it represents  the personal opinion of the  Director  and  is  not  the  position  of  or  recommendation  of   CSIA or its Board  of Directors.
 
Section 4-  A Director will endeavor to extend public knowledge and appreciation of the
Chimney  Sweep  Profession  and its  achievements and to protect the Chimney Sweeping
Profession from misrepresentation and misunderstanding.
 
Section 5-   A Director will not disclose or use confidential  information pertaining to CSIA, CSIA’s directors, officers, and employees, CSIA certified sweeps and technicians, or others with whom CSIA does business that a Director obtains in the course of performing services for CSIA, except as necessary in the ordinary course of performing duties for CSIA or if required by law or legal process.
 
Section 6-   All Directors must sign and comply with the CSIA Conflict of Interest policy.
