The Chimney Safety Institute of America is a nonprofit based in Plainfield, Indiana. Our mission includes increasing public awareness about the need for annual inspections of the chimney system, especially for those who rely on heat from their fireplace or wood stove.

CSIA relies on a variety of outreach methods to get our message out to the public. Increasingly, that includes searching social media to find real-time examples of chimney fires that might not necessarily be “covered” by the mainstream media.

We found one such example in Laurel, Maryland on Feb. 2, 2015, and assembled tweets together in a timeline using Storify. It illustrates a common danger that not everyone is aware of.
