Renewing Your Certified Chimney Sweep Credential

The CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® credential needs to be renewed every three years. If you only need to remit your annual certification fee, you can do so online by logging into the site (CSIA username/password) in the upper right hand corner of this page, and then by clicking "pay my bill" or by calling our office at (317) 837-5362.
1. Re-certify by taking a review and exam.

If you have obtained less than 9 CEUs within your current certification cycle, you must:

Take a review - either
in-person or online.  The review must be completed before you take your exam.

Once you complete the review, schedule a proctored exam using a local testing center or ProctorFree -
Find a CSIA accepted proctor here.

Then order your exam from CSIA here: online/computer exam (in-person or online proctor) or fill out this form and fax/email/mail/phone CSIA) or as part of an in-person review and exam. If testing with a local proctor and not at an in-person review and exam, you must give CSIA 3 business days' notice for an online proctored exam. You must also sign the CSIA Code of Ethics.
2. Re-certify with 9 CEUs and exam.

If you have more than 9 but less than 48 CEUs, you can submit those CEUs before taking the exam. Learn how to
recredential with CEUs.

Once you confirm your CEUs, schedule a proctored exam -
Find a CSIA approved proctor here or use our online exam partner, ProctorFree.

Then
order your exam from CSIA here: online/computer exam (in-person or online proctor) or fill out this form and fax/email/mail/phone CSIA) or as part of an in-person review and exam. If testing with a local proctor and not at an in-person review and exam, you must give CSIA 3 business days' notice for an online proctored exam. You must also sign the
CSIA Code of Ethics.

PLEASE NOTE: CEUs cannot be acquired after the certification has expired (this date will be on your ID card). To check how many CEUs you currently have, log in at the Certified Chimney Sweep and CDET tab above. Contact CSIA if you do not know your username and password.
3. Re-certify with 48 CEUs and Re-certification fee.

If you have obtained the appropriate number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the relevant categories during your current certification cycle you may recertify by submitting CEUs only. The 48 CEUs (distributed in the proper categories) will allow you to not have to take the review or the exam, but you must still pay the relevant fee
. If you have obtained CEUs through the National Fireplace Institute, you MUST provide CSIA with the documentation before recertifying with CEUs. Just fill out the renewal by CEUs form and fax it to (317) 837-5365 or scan and send by email to certification@cisa.org and then sign CSIA Code of Ethics. Learn how to re-credential with CEUs.
