Board of Directors Meeting
November 13, 2012
Online and via Teleconference

 

President Pilger called the meeting of the Chimney Safety Institute of America Board of Directors to order at 9:06 am Eastern.  

Directors Present: Jim Bostaph, Randy Brooks, Chuck Hall, John Meredith, John Pilger, Jeff Schmittinger, Mike Segerstrom, Mark Stoner, Bo Tasso

Directors Absent: Eric Adair, Steve Pietila

Staff Present: Mark McSweeney, Melissa Heeke, Ashley Eldridge, Candice Bradbury and Tracy Marshall

Guests Present: Jay Walker

A motion was made by Bo Tasso and seconded by Chuck Hall to approve the minutes of the August 2012 meeting. Voting in favor: All in favor. Motion carries.

President’s Report: As submitted by John Pilger.

Treasurer’s Report: As submitted by Mark Stoner. A discussion was held regarding FY 2011-2012 and sponsored education. 

A motion was made by Randy Brooks and seconded by Jim Bostaph to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Voting in favor: All in favor. Motion carries.

Executive Director’s Report: As submitted by Mark McSweeney. He added that Tracy Marshall has completed the regularly-scheduled legal audit for the organization.

Legal Report: As submitted by Art Garrett and presented by Tracy Marshall. A discussion was held regarding trademark litigation.

Consent Agenda
A motion was made
by Bo Tasso and seconded by Chuck Hall to accept the consent agenda as presented with the exception of the Governance Committee report. Voting in favor: All in favor. Motion carries.

Governance Committee Report: As submitted by Randy Brooks. A discussion was held regarding the upcoming officer elections.

Old Business

  • There is no old business for consideration at this meeting.

New Business

  • Policy: 1sttime CCS candidates

A discussion was held regarding requirements for first time CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep candidates.

A motion was made by Randy Brooks and seconded by John Meredith to require all firsttime candidates to take a CSIAapproved certification review, either online or in-person, before being allowed to take the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep exams. Voting in favor: Jim Bostaph, Randy Brooks, Chuck Hall, John Meredith, Mark Stoner, Bo Tasso, Jeff Schmittinger, Mike Segerstrom. Abstaining: John Pilger. Motion carries.

  • Policy: CDET Renewals

A discussion was held regarding requirements for CDET renewals.

A motion was made by Randy Brooks and seconded by  Chuck Hall that, effective immediately, upon renewal of an individual’s CSIA Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician (CDET) credential, the candidate shall be required to either submit the required number of CEUs or complete an official CSIA CDET review course, either online or in-person, in lieu of passing a written exam. Voting in favor: Jim Bostaph, Randy Brooks, Chuck Hall, John Meredith, Mark Stoner, Bo Tasso, Jeff Schmittinger, Mike Segerstrom. Abstaining: John Pilger. Motion carries.

  • Instructor Fees

A discussion was held regarding methods to consider for potential fee increases for instructors and NCSTS drivers. No motion was made. Discussion will continue with future Budget Committees.

  • Officer Intentions 20132014

The following individuals have stated their intention to run for officer positions for April 2013-March 2014:

A motion was made by Bo Tasso and seconded by Chuck Hall to adjourn the meeting of the Chimney Safety Institute of America.  Voting in favor: All in favor. Motion carries.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:23 am.
